Videos of dome destruction

We are working on a series of videos of us showing off how incredibly strong domes are. What kind of things would people like to see?

Here is a picture from our video shoot yesterday. The truck weighed 8800 lbs.

Hey, that’s really cool. Now, place a second truck on top of the first.

I wish we had a crane out there. I might have to rent one. The other problem, and I am not just saying this, I don’t think we could stack enough trucks on there to crush it.

We’re going to be hitting it with some explosives next week, see what we can do

I’m curious how a laser would affect it. I watched a video about some previous fires in CA, I believe, and it appears that a lot of the things that were burned or charred were mostly around metal objects, like nails in fenceposts and such. It was really weird, but i dont rule anything out these days. They also pointed out that things painted blue didnt seem to have burned, like the blue cars where all the other cars were fried. Anyway, if that is actually feasible, a laser attack (lol) I wonder about the rebar in the concrete heating up. Or should I just paint my dome blue? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Interesting question. Obviously, a laser pointer wouldn’t do anything. A strong handheld green laser would burn and mar the Airform membrane surface and could damage some of the foam. A military laser with megawatts of power behind it? It might drill a hole through the shell, but it wouldn’t be fast. Now, weirdly, I would like to try it. Anybody have a megawatt laser handy?

Definitely paint the dome blue! You can’t lose!

Yes, light blue with clouds. :grinning:

I remember on the old website, there were two things I remember seeing.

  1. The old supermarket dome with lots of sandbags on top.
  2. University of Utah having built a twenty footer, put sandbags and a front end loader on top.
  3. And more recently, a wooden dome being subjected to a quake table.
I would love to have all of those for presentations.

Hi. Let’s see. 1). I have the first picture. It’s part of this article. https://monolithicdome.com/dr-arnold-wilson-and-domes-past-present-and-future
